International Olympic Committe

Open Innovation

The International Olympic Comiittee (IOC) is the organization that governs all aspects of the Olympic movement. The IOC, through its Olympic Games Study Commission, was challenged to resolve a serious issue: how to make hosting the Olympic Games more accessible for potential host cities. Given the enormous cost, logistics, security, communication and hospitality infrastructure required, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find new candidate cities in diverse regions that are capable of hosting The Games. The Public Suggestions program using BrainBank capabilities was implemented to leverage every stakeholder's view on how to reduce the complexity and costs of hosting the event and still do so in a profitable fashion. The IOC has thus far run two 7-month episodal idea campaigns using Idealink OpenTM. These programs solicited proposals from:

  • fans
  • sponsors
  • officials
  • suppliers
  • judges
  • game organizers
  • members of the media
  • athletes (past + present)
  • IOC employees

The combined net financial benefit of the Olympic Games Study Commission campaigns: $1.9 Billion.
